How To Remove Wrinkles Under Your Eyes

Wrinkles under the eyes are one of the first things many people see when they look in the mirror. They say that the eyes are the window to the soul, so it would make sense that they are also the focus of so much attention (both positive and negative).

Thankfully, MiamiMD has just the products you need to help fight off the visible signs of aging under your eyes and to help you stay feeling young no matter how old you are.

The Causes of Wrinkles Under the Eyes

Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process, but that doesn’t mean that they have to be inevitable. Understanding a little more about what causes them can help you more effectively reduce their appearance.

There is definitely a genetic component behind both how soon and where wrinkles develop. The good news is that this plays an incredibly small role overall in your ability to be able to combat them.

While there is no specific gene that impacts the skin (it is a combination of some of the between 20,000 and 25,000 genes that exist in the human body), the genes that do affect the skin can do so in a major way.

Genes control things like collagen, melanin production, and expression, so they definitely have the potential to be visibly expressed on the skin on the face. However, the genetic component is much more likely to impact bigger gene expressions like the overall color of the skin and skin type, as well as genetic skin disorders like rosacea and psoriasis.

Now that we’ve ruled out genetic causes that are out of our control, let’s talk about the things that we have a hand in.

Sun Exposure

The number one cause of wrinkles is sun exposure. While excessive sun exposure, especially without sunscreen, can be dangerous to your physical health, it can also make a significant impact on how you look.

Specifically, UVA rays are the culprit. As the UVA rays interact with the surface of the skin (called the epidermis), it triggers the creation and release of atoms known as free radicals. Free radicals are problematic because each contains a single, unpaired electron. While this may not sound dangerous, electrons that do not have a partner seek out that extra electron in whatever way they can. This means they tend to bounce around the body, trying to take that electron from anything they can in an effort to balance themselves out, including from healthy cells.

Unfortunately, this creates something known as oxidative stress, which basically inhibits the body from being able to detoxify itself. Over time, this oxidative stress becomes a main factor in the speeding up of the aging process, including not only wrinkles but also loss of elasticity, grey hair, and even memory impairment.

If you’ve ever heard of antioxidants (which are a main ingredient in a lot of different anti-aging skincare products), that’s where the name comes from. They help to counteract the oxidative stress caused by free radicals in the body.

In addition to the creation of free radicals, UVA rays are extra potent. Where UVB rays are only able to affect the very top layer of the skin, UVA rays can reach all the way through the dermis. That means their influence is seen not only on the outside, but also on the inside in the form of a quicker breakdown of collagen and elastin, leading to a loss of elasticity and less resilient skin.

That’s why it is so important to wear sunscreen any time that you are out in the sun. When it comes to helping reduce the development of under eye wrinkles, wearing a good quality pair of sunglasses that can block out UVA and UVB light is also essential. Just a few small changes to your lifestyle can make a big difference!

Repetitive Facial Movements

As humans, we quite literally show our emotions on our face. But every smile, squint, laugh, frown, and cringe has a lasting impact on the skin underneath.

Each of those facial gestures is controlled by many facial muscles, even if the muscle plays an incredibly small role in the overall expression. Every time that you use those muscles, it pulls and tightens the skin that sits directly on top of it. Over time, the repetition of those small movements can create a groove under the surface.

As those grooves form, the body begins to experience a loss in its natural elasticity. This is due to a degradation of the body’s collagen stores, and a slowing down of its production. With less and less collagen in the dermis (the middle layer of the skin), the skin starts to become far less flexible and elastic, losing its ability to “spring back” into place when it is moved.

Those two factors combined lead to sagging skin all over the face, not only in the under eye area. That also means that those small grooves under the skin turn into fine lines and eventually wrinkles.

So many of the commonly complained-about wrinkles — crow’s feet, frown lines, etc. — are the result of a loss of collagen combined with repetitive facial movements over the years. While some loss of collagen is expected, that doesn’t mean that it can’t be slowed down, or stopped temporarily, or even kick-started with the right products.

Other Factors

There are other factors that can also contribute to the formation of wrinkles in the under eye area, including things like:

  • Smoking (there are tons of reasons to quit aside from skin health)
  • Dehydration (make sure to drink at least eight glasses a day!)
  • Rubbing the skin too hard (especially when applying product or drying your face)
  • Sleeping position (try to sleep on your back as much as possible)
  • Diet (specifically not getting enough of the essential vitamins and minerals)

Taking an honest look at any factors that may be in your control, and working hard to change them to help slow down the development of under eye wrinkles is a good way to work alongside your targeted skincare products so that you can see real change.

You don’t have to feel like what happens to your face is beyond your control, and understanding why wrinkles happen can help you to take your power back!

How To Remove Wrinkles Under Your Eyes

In addition to prevention, there are skincare products out there that can work to help you minimize and even remove wrinkles under your eyes. You just have to know where to look, and what exactly to look for.

Let us help make this part a little easier.

MiamiMD’s Instant Wrinkle Eraser is a great place to start, not only for its effectiveness but also for how quickly it begins to work. It has been compared to an “invisibility cloak” for the skin, visibly reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles within minutes of application. The cream also targets “senior shadows” that make fine lines and wrinkles more obvious, leading not only to a firmer, smoother under eye area, but a brighter one as well. It can also be safely used on the cheeks and forehead, helping to create a beautiful blank canvas for any makeup application.

The best part? Instant Wrinkle Eraser is made without fragrances, BHA, and parabens. It uses active ingredients like Matrixyl Synthe-6, which university researchers found may be able to nearly double the amount of collagen, as well as Acetyl Hexapeptide 30, which can safely block the nerve signals that cause the facial muscles to contract and exacerbate fine lines and wrinkles.

The result? A well-rounded, groundbreaking formula that can help you be just a little more confident in your day to day.

You can also use Instant Wrinkle Eraser in combination with another MiamiMD targeted skincare product, Eye Rescue

While it doesn’t specifically target wrinkles, it targets other common under eye issues that can lead to more attention being drawn to the under eye area, like dark circles, bags, and puffiness. It has a unique ingredient list that was specifically procured to produce the most benefit, including Chondrus Crispus (a seaweed that can smooth out and depuff the under eye area), Stem Cell Complex (with omega-3s, Chinese Basil Extract, and rosmarinic acid to help plump the skin), and Magnesium Aluminum Silicate (to hold the ingredients in place so they can be effective for a longer period of time).

Just an amount the size of a grain of rice gently and carefully applied under each eye works in minutes to dramatically reduce the appearance of under-eye bags, dark circles, and puffy eyes. It also causes tired, droopy eyes to seemingly vanish.

In Summary…

Our focus on functional beauty products that help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the under eye area (and the entire face as a whole) as you wear them is a game-changer in the quest to restore your confidence and defy the signs of aging.

Don’t go another day staring at yourself in the mirror, just wishing your wrinkles away. Take an active step forward in the fight against under eye wrinkles today, and see what science can do for your skin with MiamiMD.
