How To Look Younger: Restore Youthful Skin Through Facial Care

Younger, glowing skin is the goal of many people who may be starting to notice the signs of aging.

While some may go through drastic procedures and endless amounts of skincare products to try to reclaim that fountain of youth, working smarter instead of harder to find the right facial care routine can really be what starts to turn everything around.

MiamiMD would love to be part of that skincare routine, and we specialize in products that can give you firmer, younger looking skin without having to turn to risky surgeries or painful injections.

How You May Be Prematurely Aging Your Skin

Before we get into how a good facial care routine can help you restore youthful skin, we need to talk about the ways in which you may also be prematurely aging your skin.

When you’re able to identify the ways you’re actively contributing to the signs of aging you’re noticing, you can work on them. Combining that with an effective facial care routine is the holistic approach that you’ll need to really make a change.

Sun Exposure

The number one way people age their skin is by putting it through excessive sun exposure, especially without the use of proper sunscreen.

Essentially, exposure to direct sunlight is also exposure to two different, potentially dangerous forms of ultraviolet radiation. Ultraviolet A (or UVA) are the rays that age your skin, and ultraviolet B (or UVB) are the rays that burn your skin. While many people are aware of the importance of avoiding UVB rays, they’re not aware of exactly how much UVA can do.

UVA rays are responsible for most of what is known as “photoaging.” Signs of photoaging include wrinkles, changes in pigmentation (“sun spots”), a loss of elasticity, rough and uneven texture, redness, and broken capillaries (especially around the nose).

UVA rays are able to impact so much because, unlike UVB rays (which only impacts the epidermis), UVA rays can damage the skin at every level.

While people that are considered to be Type 1 on the Fitzpatrick Scale (pale with light-colored eyes and either blond or red hair) are considered to be the most at risk for photodamage, even darker skin can be affected. That’s why it’s imperative to always protect your skin, even during brief sun exposure.

The one bright spot in sun exposure as a factor in prematurely aging skin is that this form of facial aging is something that you can avoid. It isn’t part of the “natural” aging process, so taking care of your skin can make a huge difference.

Being Too Rough With Your Skin

It’s natural to want to really rub your skincare products into your skin, but did you know that this can actually contribute to prematurely aging it?

This is especially true when it comes to the delicate area around the eyes.

When you rub your skin too hard, it creates friction. Over time, that friction can stretch out and damage the skin. Combined with the fact that skin naturally loses a lot of its elasticity as we age, this can contribute to fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging.

Instead of rubbing and scrubbing at the skin, always use as gentle of pressure as you can to still get the job done. Many dermatologists recommend applying skincare products to the eye area using your ring finger, because you’re less likely to accidentally tug at the skin. For the rest of the skin, use a gentle massaging motion or even “pat” it in using your index and middle fingers.

Also, if you use exfoliators (either chemical or physical), make sure that you’re not using them more than three times a week. While there are plenty of benefits to helping remove excess dead skin cells and stimulating blood flow to the skin on the face, too much can be too abrasive and do more harm than good. Again, using your products so that they work smarter and not harder is key.

Lifestyle Choice

Although we treat the face as though it were separate from the rest of the body, how you treat your body (both inside and out) does impact your face. Making some healthy lifestyle chances can also really help to improve your appearance.

Smoking is number one in this discussion.

Smoking, and nicotine specifically, deprives the skin of essential oxygen and nutrients which creates a dull, uneven complexion.

Many of the chemicals that are found in tobacco smoke can also trigger the body to destroy its own collagen and elastin, speeding up the development of sagging and wrinkling. Smoking can also increase the risk of developing age spots.

The most tell-tale sign of premature aging that smoking is tied to, though, is the development of fine lines and wrinkles around the lips. This is related to both the repetitive physical movement of the muscles in the lips when smoking combined with the loss of elasticity and resilience in the skin on a chemical level. Lifelong smokers may also notice similar effects in the eye area.

Dehydration can also be a factor in premature aging of the skin.

While we focus on using moisturizers to hydrate the skin from the outside in, having proper hydration can also affect the skin from the inside out. When you drink at least eight glasses of water a day, you’re giving the body what it needs to help flush out toxins, potentially helping to create more radiant, elastic, youthful appearing skin. It’s also great for the rest of your body, too.

Using Facial Care To Restore Youthful Skin

Now that you’re aware of what you may be doing to contribute to prematurely aging your skin, how can facial care help you restore it to that youthful glow it used to have?

The biggest factor here is choosing the right skincare products. With so many on the market, it can be hard to really narrow it down and pinpoint what proven ingredients you should look for when spending your hard earned money. Knowing how to combine them effectively, so that their benefits are amplified instead of fighting against each other, is any other important factor.

One product you’ll want to invest in is a quality, all-over skincare cream. In addition to focusing on more targeted products that can address your specific skincare concerns, an all-over cream is the workhorse of any facial care routine.

MiamiMD’s Age-Defying Lift & Firm Cream is a great example of one of these creams. It helps to transform loose, saggy skin, restoring firmness, volume, and elasticity to roll back the clock and give you that radiant, “honeymoon glow.”

Made out of ingredients like Progeline, Matrixyl 3000, and Argireline, it works by dramatically reducing the levels of a toxic protein that has been scientifically linked to thin, aging skin. It also signals the body to start replacing lost collagen, and prevents some of the muscle movement responsible for wrinkle formation.

It should be the last step in any facial care routine, both morning and night, and is always made without parabens, BHA, and fragrance while staying cruelty-free. You can expect to see results after about four weeks.

Serums are another great addition to your skin restoration toolbox. They are often targeted to help specific areas of concern, most often the eye area.

Our Intensive Eye Repair Serum is one of our favorites, because it is multifaceted in the way that it approaches the struggles many people see in their eye area.

The serum helps prevent and fight bags under the eyes, improves fine wrinkles associated with the natural aging process, and removes under eye dark circles while also firming and toning.

It uses two of the same ingredients that create similarly impressive effects in the Age-Defying Lift & Firm Cream, Progeline and Matrixyl 3000. In addition, the serum includes two other ingredients targeted specifically to the eye area, Eyeliss and Haloxyl. It can also be used both morning and night, and should be applied after you’ve cleansed your face but before applying your moisturizer or all-over cream.

Another great targeted product is MiamiMD’s Dark Spot Corrector, which works on both the hands and the face to visibly reduce dark aging spots.

Within weeks of regular use, it can transform patchy, stained skin into skin with a younger, more even complexion. The corrector is specifically formulated to visibly correct “DNA discoloration,” fading and diminishing dark spots, sun spots, liver spots, age spots, and even freckles before making them disappear altogether as the damaged layer of the skin painless sloughs off to reveal the radiant skin underneath.

In Summary

Restoring youthful skin through facial care is possible!

When you combine the right products, like MiamiMD’s Age-Defying Lift & Firm Cream, with focusing on minimizing the things you may be doing to prematurely age your skin, you can work to turn back the clock.

Look for products that contain science-driven, pure ingredients made with responsible processes to create your best skin without worry for safety or ethics.
